Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Our main products include launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; missile products, subsystems and defense electronics; precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition; satellites and associated space components and services; and advanced aerospace structures.

Job Summary

With limited direction, gathers information, makes studies, develops and designs intermediate to complex mechanical and/or electro-mechanical components and/or assemblies. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material/ planning groups considering ease of manufacturing, availability of materials, and contractual obligations. Contributes to completion of detailed technical tasks and to the overall product design. Trains others on design practices and methodologies. Develops layouts, performs tolerance stack-up analysis, and details drawings in accordance with engineering standards. Uses geometric tolerancing methods to check fit, form, and function. Drives designs based on understanding of internal ane external customer needs.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Creates and modifies complex CAD models and drawings. Deals with complex components and assemblies.
  2. Creates layouts and tolerance stacks at a level of difficult to complex.
  3. Evaluates fit, form, and function. Makes suggestions for tolerancing solutions and improvements.
  4. Provides creative solutions to a moderate range of problems. Works on Layout of subsystems and integration on large assemblies.
  5. Recognized expert in functionality of CAD and/or PLM toolsets. Provides cross divisional support and beta testing of version upgrades. Assists in development and implementation of CAD and/or PLM toolsets practices, procedures and standards.

Education and Experience

Requires BS & 9 years.

Other Requirements

Knowledge of geometric tolerancing methods to check fit, form, and function.
