Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Our main products include launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; missile products, subsystems and defense electronics; precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition; satellites and associated space components and services; and advanced aerospace structures.

Northrop Grumman is currently seeking an entry-level Communications Specialist to support internal and external communications for our Propulsion Systems Division.

Role description & Responsibilities:

The Communications Specialist is responsible for showcasing Northrop Grumman internally and externally as a world-class aerospace and defense company. He or she will develop impactful communications products, support a meaningful employee engagement program, and lead community outreach efforts in the greater Salt Lake area for Propulsion Systems Division.

Job Duties: 

  • Use the art of storytelling to write compelling internal and external feature stories, video scripts, headlines and photo captions, key messages, press releases, award nominations, etc.
  • Review and edit copy written by others to ensure clarity and accuracy.
  • Work with graphics team to create effective images.
  • Support employee engagement program, carrying out multiple events each year to promote employee morale.
  • Manage sponsorship budget.
  • Lead major community outreach efforts and compile hands-on STEM demonstration kits for classroom presentations.
  • Oversee strategy for Propulsion Systems intranet and work with gatekeepers to improve navigation and content.
  • Coordinate with other communicators on shared projects.
  • Plan and execute large events to elevate the Northrop Grumman image to customers and stakeholders, e.g. static tests.
  • Secure appropriate approvals for images, video and text
  • Stay current on communications best practices and share across department.
  • Actively support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements:  

  • Candidate must have a minimum of 1 year of internal and external Communications experience.
  • Travel expectation of 25% – 50%

Experience Preferred:

  • Detailed knowledge of social media and interest/background in aerospace industry a plus.

Education/Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field required.
