Job Summary

 Performs all inspections on the L-1011 Carrier Aircraft as required by Northrop Grumman, contractors and FAA maintenance programs.  Maintains aircraft in airworthy condition as stated in Federal Air Regulations.  Assist in Pegasus launches and any airborne experiments that may arise.

 Reports to the Senior Program Manager at the Mojave location and work independently or directly with other aircraft technicians, contract technicians, and the Pegasus engineers. 

Assist in preparing the aircraft for Pegasus or other flight or launch activities including modifications and Airborne Support Equipment Installations to reconfigure the aircraft as required for mission unique configurations. 

Support deployments for launch activities at various launch sites within and outside the continental U.S., including “rocket watch” activities on a 24-hour schedule when required. 

Perform routine L-1011 maintenance including servicing, system checks, engine runs, pre- and post-flight inspections, non-routine repairs, avionics and systems testing and troubleshooting. 

Must be willing to inspect the work of other technicians as required. 

Maintain aircraft maintenance records in accordance with the aircraft maintenance plan. 

Comply with FAA Airworthiness Directives, manufacturer Service Bulletins, and other unique maintenance and inspection requirements for the aircraft. 

Assist in coordinating maintenance schedules and parts procurement as required.  

Assist in maintaining aircraft facilities and ground support equipment as required.


Preferred Skills Needed:  Ideal candidate must possess a valid and current FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License; Inspection Authority (IA) highly desirable.  Shall possess technical training equivalent to an Associates’ Degree, plus a minimum of five years of related experience as an aircraft technician performing routine, non-routine maintenance and modifications to aircraft systems and structures.

 Recent operational experience on the flight line with large turbine powered aircraft; L-1011 experience highly desirable.  Flight test experience desirable.  Must be familiar with large aircraft systems and powerplants and be able to troubleshoot and repair discrepancies with minimum supervision.  Must be able and willing to perform aircraft maintenance activities at various heights from work platforms, in confined spaces and in inclement weather.  Must be willing to travel (including internationally) for periods ranging from one week to one month approximately 1-3 times per year.  Must be willing to work overtime and unique hours/schedules when required.

Performs difficult aircraft tasks of a specific discipline (Avionic, Electrical, Mechanical or Hydraulic). Solves problems with the use of blueprints and other technical documents.

Education and Experience

Generally requires HS & 4 years or equivalent combination of education & experience.

Other Requirements

Airframe and Powerplant License Preferred. Stateside and Overseas travel may be required.
