Job Summary

Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors. Develops and maintains detailed work instructions for assigned products/processes. Dispositions discrepant hardware. Investigates root cause of discrepancies and implements corrective actions. Performs material flow analysis, cycle time analysis, and value stream mapping. Takes leadership role for Manufacturing Engineering in IPTs.

Job Responsibilities/ Requirements:

 

This Sr./ Princ. Manufacturing Engineer should be capable and experienced in working in a broad based manufacturing environment. The Ideal candidate shall possess a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering plus 10 years minimum of related experience in the satellite industry supporting Space Flight Hardware Manufacturing. US Citizenship required. Candidate must possess demonstrated leadership skills, excellent interpersonal skills with excellent verbal and written communication ability.

 

The candidate must have supervised and implemented process enhancements in a team environment. Must possess good problem solving skills, organizational skills, communication skills, and work with limited supervision. Must be a self-starter, must be self-motivated, and a team player. Familiarization with ESD, FOD, 5S, and Tool Control required.

Primary Duties

This position will be centered on tactically leading multiple work centers. Technically lead personnel, process, cost, schedule, and quality in Orbital/ ATK’s Satellite Manufacturing Facility.   Specific areas of responsibility are: Electronic Component Work Center (ECWC) and Card Test Lab (CTL)

Develop process and procedures in the Manufacturing Enterprise System (MES/ Costpoint). Construct factory floor schedules that support larger Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), lead teams to exceed quality, schedule, and cost targets. 

Perform Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) events that challenge current systems and result in robust streamlined process’ from program inception, to Manufacturing Readiness Reviews (MRR), to planning, kitting, material management, goal setting (Budgeting) of per part built durations, monitoring Actual performance to the Budgeted goals.

Technically lead the fabrication and assembly process of CTL and ECWC area.  Perform/ serve as Cost Account Manager (CAM) for CTL and ECWC area.  Perform estimated budget hours/ Basis of Estimate (BOE) for spacecraft card and box builds.  Using meaningful metrics communicate and monitor budget, cost, and schedule performance to the manufacturing Team.

Work with Manager to analyze complex schedules make staffing and process recommendations that support a lean and efficient work force. 

  • Have familiarity of Space Flight quality hand soldering and assembly of printed circuit boards to NASA/J-Std Flight requirements. Familiarization with Class Zero ESD requirements, staking, and conformal coat (Polymerics)

Qualifications:

  • A BA/BS in a related Engineering discipline is prefered.
  • 10 years minimum experience
  • Leadership, personal, problem solving, and listening skills with strong follow-through ability.
  • Must have supervised personnel to build items to IPC, J-Std, and/or NASA standards. 
  • Knowledge of TipQA, Windchill, MES, Costpoint, Cognos, and CREOView preferred.
