Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Structural Design Engineer to join our team in our Clearfield, UT offices. 

Must have Active DOD Secret Clearance

Role description & Responsibilities:

Highly motivated design engineer with experience designing composite and metallic structures, assemblies and installations for military and/or commercial aircraft. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the design of pre-preg laminates and sandwich structures, machined and formed metallic parts and assemblies, and bonded and bolted assemblies and installations. Ability to work autonomously to a given specification and to provide a design that meets all the given requirements, including GD&T requirements.

Experience Requirements:

  • MUST HAVE AN ACTIVE DOD SECURITY CLEARANCE TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE
  • Must have an active clearance with an investigation within the last 4.5 years (or 4 years 6 months)
  • BS in Engineering with a minimum of 3 years related experience in design engineering function
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience with Siemens NX or Catia V5 for component and assembly design
  • Assembly level design including establishment of datum schemes and tolerance analysis
  • Knowledge of GD&T ANSI Y14.5
  • Knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of metallic materials and manufacturing processes
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to solve complex engineering problems
  • Ability to work in a fast paced dynamic environment as part of a multi-discipline team

Experience Preferred:

  • BS or MS in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering with 5 years experience in a related field
  • Experience creating composite layups and ply patterns using Fibersim and Siemens NX
  • 5 or more years designing composite and metallic structures for aerospace applications
  • Experience designing with higher temp composite pre-preg laminates
  • Experience creating complex assembly and installation drawings that include both composite and metallic components
  • Experience working in a liaison role for composite structures

  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively

Education/Certifications:

  • BS degree in Civil, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or related
